Child Safety and Wellbeing is the First Priority of The Infants’ Home
The ABC’s Four Corners program (17 March 2025) revealed alarming safety concerns in some childcare services. The Infants’ Home, a not-for-profit with a 150-year history, is dedicated to ensuring children’s safety and providing care and education for their present and future wellbeing. Our centres are rated Exceeding the National Quality Standard, reflecting our commitment to quality and compliance.
Child protection is a priority for The Infants’ Home Board, management and staff. We are diligent in identifying and managing potential child safety risks, adhering to best practices. The safety and wellbeing of children are at the core of all decisions made regarding our service delivery.
Child safe policies and procedures underpin our work. Regular child protection refresher training ensures that staff, particularly mandatory reporters, understand their responsibilities and reporting procedures. A transparent complaint handling process provides avenues for concerns to be raised, ensuring these are investigated and addressed promptly and professionally.
Child safety is the responsibility of every person at The Infants’ Home. All team members, especially our educators and allied health therapists who interact directly with children, are dedicated to delivering programs, education, and support that acknowledge and address each child’s strengths, interests, experiences, and needs.
We recognise the significant impact that early experiences have on a child’s future development and wellbeing, and we acknowledge our long-term impact. As such, we prioritise the experience of each child in our planning and decision-making processes. This child-centred, trauma-responsive, approach underscores our commitment to employing evidence-based practices to achieve positive and enduring outcomes for all children.
We acknowledge that the educational programs we develop and implement achieve optimal outcomes when created through collaborative partnerships. Involvement from children, families, educators, allied health professionals, and other practitioners is essential for program development, with each group contributing valuable perspectives and insights.
As an organisation committed to upholding the rights of every child, The Infants’ Home condemns any actions by organisations or individuals that intentionally or negligently cause harm to children. We strongly support the efforts of governments, peak bodies, and sector advocates who work to ensure that all early childhood education and care services are held accountable for delivering high-quality programs for children.
The Infants’ Home is dedicated to our role as a high-quality early childhood education and care service, focusing on safeguarding each child and providing them with every opportunity to thrive and build a positive future.
