Welcome to our weekly news round up of happenings at The Infants' Home.
Farewell to Louise Doolin, Director of Robinson House, whose last day at The Infants' Home was Friday 15th December. We wish Louise all the best for the future and thank her for her leadership and contribution to The Infants’ Home.
Children in Robinson House 'Purple room' have been talking about going to 'big school'. Our speech therapist has been working with children to identify friends and peers who would be going to the same school, and trialling some non-verbal acknowledgements to help children feel confident to say 'hello' when they see each other in a new environment. Some children found it helpful to hear adult experiences about the newness of starting school, and were interested in different ways to deal with uncomfortable feelings such as finding a teacher and telling them that you aren't feeling sure about what to do, or can't find any friends to play with. Children are more likely to notice each other and feel confident to include others with the initial help of adults to guide them.
On Thursday, the 7th of December, the children and families in Johnson House Toddlers celebrated together at their end of year party. It was wonderful to see all the families and children together. The children had the opportunity to engage in sand play with their parents, and shared stories together, and also enjoyed having their faces painted by a parent.
Rigby House hosted their end of year celebration on 1st December. The party was a huge success, with nearly all families attending. Staff and families celebrated the wonderful year they had had together. Educators expressed that they will miss all of the children very much, as they are all transitioning to other houses in preparation for the Rigby House renovations, and wish to thank all Rigby families for the support they have given and wish them all the very best for the Christmas and holiday season and a wonderful and prosperous 2018!
Our Gurung and Fathers playgroups ended with a bang! Elsa and Mrs Clause came along and played pin the red nose on the Rudolf, pass the parcel, and musical statues. A special graduation ceremony was held for children going to Kindergarten next year.
Welcome to David, Lisa and Chareon (pictured left to right), our new kitchen staff from Wests Ashfield Leagues Club, who began serving meals to Gorton House this week. Children have been enjoying the new menu, with food freshly prepared onsite. From mid-January, all houses will be serviced by the new kitchen.
Don't forget - our crowdfunding campaign finishes on Wednesday 20th December! We were thrilled to hit our $10,000 target on Friday. With 2 days left in the campaign, our generous donor has promised to continue dollar matching above our target. We would love to reach at least $12,500. Can you help us? We would be so grateful if one last time can you spread the word about The Infants' Home to your own network of friends, relatives, colleagues, and encourage them to contribute.
Together we can create a wonderful learning space for young children. See the campaign here.
Tune in next week for more news from The Infants' Home.
