Reconciliation Week runs from the 27 May – 3 June and aims to celebrate and build on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
On Thursday 1st June we celebrated Reconciliation Week at The Infants' Home with a special morning tea, with support from the Aboriginal Women and Childrens Crisis Centre.
Parents, staff and children came together to enjoy a range of activities.
One of our parents (Heather) came to give an acknowledgement of country, Emma from Ashfield Library came to read stories, and Rebecca from The Infants' Home read The Rainbow Serpent.
Groups from our infant and toddler programs attended activities on the main lawn, including play dough activities, boomerang painting activities, and a group symbols activity.
The event concluded with an acknowledgement of country performed by Gorton House Preschool children, who wrote and performed their Wangal Land song, as written below:
We live on Wangal land, we play on Wangal land
Every day we come together and learn on Wangal land
Thank you Wangal land, thank you Wangal land
Thank you Wangal people for sharing your land
