140th Anniversary Reception at Government House

- April 13, 2015

Last Wednesday we proudly celebrated The Infants’ Home’s 140th Anniversary with an official reception at Government House. We welcomed many distinguished quests and supporters to this special event, including guests of honour His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) Governor of New South Wales, and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley, The Infants’ Home Patron.

Celebrating our Milestone with Honored Guests and Friends

Guests arrived to the sounds of beautiful music provided by The Subway Strings String Quartet, and enjoyed drinks and canapés within the historic surrounds of Sydney’s Government House.

The speaker schedule included a welcome address by The Infants’ Home’s President Denise Taylor, and speeches delivered by our Patron Mrs Hurley, parent Andy Davenport and key speaker Jane Caro. Each spoke eloquently about the importance of early childhood education and care and the work we do with children and families, especially those who have complex challenges in their lives.

Finally, CEO Anita Kumar delivered a speech highlighting the history of our organisation, and the intrinsic role we have played in helping families and children, especially those who are most vulnerable or disadvantaged, to experience positive life outcomes.

Anita said, "Over the past 140 years, The Infants’ Home may have changed the services it provides, the way we collaborate and our language, but our commitment to our vision of providing each child every opportunity is as strong as ever."

An Attitude of Gratitude

Anita took the opportunity to thank the many people who support our work every day, including our friends, donors and benefactors as well as The Infants’ Home’s Board and staff. She also thanked his Excellency, Governor of News South Wales David Hurley and our new Patron Mrs Linda Hurley for helping us to celebrate this special milestone, and event sponsors Wests Ashfield Leagues and Club Ashfield for their long term support of our organisation.
