Quality early childhood education and care is vital to setting children on a positive pathway for their future.
The Productivity Commission’s draft report on the inquiry into childcare and early learning, released last week, made a number of recommendations. While some of the recommendations looked at initiatives such as simplifying the fee subsidy system for families, it is concerning that the Commission has also suggested removing the requirement for degree qualified educators for children under three, and lowering educator to child ratios. The Infant’s Home is committed to the delivery of high quality early childhood education and care for all children. We recognise that to do this our staff, including staff working with babies and toddlers, need to be well-qualified and experienced and that high educator to child ratios must be maintained to promote the best outcomes for children.
