Randwick South Sydney FDC was lucky enough to be awarded a Coles Junior Landcare grant this year.
The children who attended TIH Randwick South Sydney FDC's playgroups have been involved in developing our “Fruity Food Forest”, along with a number of volunteers from Randwick City Council, Sydney Organic Gardens , parents, friends, educators and staff.
The children have enthusiastically immersed themselves into planting fruit trees and fruiting plants like strawberries and passion fruit. They’ve learnt about growing vegetables and herbs from seeds and are now enjoying the fruits of their labours!
Caring for the garden is ongoing with weeding, watering, composting and looking after the worm farm, a source of great interest. The children are learning about sustainable practices like saving their fruit and vegetable scraps to feed the worms. The garden has given us a wonderful and invaluable opportunity to show the children where and how to grow their own food.
Thank you Coles!
