Mystery reindeer at The Infants' Home

- December 29, 2011

Did Santa leave his reindeer at The Infants' Home for a while? They have since moved on, but the mystery remains…

Recent visitors to The Infants' Home may have noticed the mysterious appearance – and subsequent disappearance – of miniature reindeer on the main lawn between Robinson House and Johnson House.

First one, then three, and then six reindeer took up residence on the lawn a week before Christmas. One had a conspicuous red nose.

The reindeer have since vanished.

Those who know their popular culture will be aware that Santa Claus has nine reindeer:

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph.

We identified Rudolph, but no-one could be sure who the other five were, or where the remaining three had been located.

Some of the older children said Cameron Fargo, the maintenance officer at The Infants’ Home, may have known. Cameron is Canadian, so he knows more about Santa's North Pole home than most people in this part of the world.

If you pass Cameron as you come and go from The Infant’s Home over the next week or so, perhaps you can ask him about the reindeer, and what happened to them.
