Child to staff ratios and staff qualifications at The Infants’ Home exceed the current national requirements for early education and care.
We have at least one four-year degree-qualified teacher in each room to guide the curriculum, with ratios of 1:3 for babies and 1:5 for toddlers during core hours.
The Infants’ Home is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation that provides high quality early childhood education and care. We are located on beautiful, heritage-listed grounds in Henry Street, Ashfield.
We provide integrated services, such as occupational therapy and speech pathology. This means all children and families can access these early intervention and specialist health services from one site.
We have a well-developed successful transition to school program, nutritionally balanced healthy meals and snacks, and strong relationship-based programs.
Joining the waitlist
The Infants’ Home has five Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Centres onsite providing education and care for children from 6 weeks of age through to 5 years. The waiting list application is to join The Infants’ Home waitlist, and as such we are unable to take requests for a particular centre. Please be advised, we do not offer tours of The Infants’ Home until an enrolment has been offered. We accept waiting list applications during pregnancy.
Placing your child on our waiting list incurs an administrative fee of $22.00 which is non-refundable. In some cases you may be able to obtain priority of access depending on your child or families’ circumstances. For example, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander families, siblings currently attending The Infants Home, any additional needs or medical conditions. If you believe this would be the case, please call us on (02) 9799 4844 with information about these circumstances so that they can be noted on your application.

Once the form has been received we will contact you for payment. You can pay the fee over the phone via credit card (which will incur a 1.5% surcharge) or by coming into reception and paying by cash or EFTPOS. Our office hours are 8.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Once payment has been made you will then be placed on the waitlist.
Offer of Enrolment
Vacancies vary depending on age, days and when you require care. Once a vacancy becomes available, we will contact you with an offer for an enrolment at The Infants’ Home and invite you to come in and visit the centre. Generally we require an acceptance or refusal of an offer within 2 working days. Where an enrolment has been accepted you will be required to complete an enrolment pack ,attend an orientation session with the centre director, and pay a security deposit within 5 days of accepting the position.
If you decide to decline the offer at the time it is offered, you are not disadvantaged and will remain on the waiting list in your original position, and may be offered a position once another vacancy becomes available.
